Episode 302 - Paul Mahern of Zero Boys
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
Wednesday Aug 24, 2022
Zero Boys frontman Paul Mahern drops by Thunderlove Studio to talk with the guys about the band’s album Vicious Circle… and Punk Rock.
In addition to fronting what is arguably the seminal pop-punk band Zero Boys, Paul Mahern is a Grammy-Nominated producer/engineer and manned the boards behind several platinum albums. He’s worked with artists as varied as Afghan Whigs, Iggy Pop, The Fray, and Neil Young and built a very successful working relationship with John Mellencamp.
Paul is also a music archivist and a college professor (he teaches a class called The History of Punk) - go figure. :)
Check out the links below to his work.

Episode 301, Part 2 - Irwin Chusid
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Irwin Chusid is to outsider music as Irving Azoff was to Atlantic Records. Here in Part Two, Irwin gives us the low-down on music rights. He goes into his involvement in a Lizzo song, a Lady Gaga song, and how that led to his involvement with Sun Ra.
You don't NEED to listen to Part One to follow along here, but it is strongly encouraged. It provides better context.
Once again, Irwin shares with us his tremendous knowledge and his unique storytelling skills.

Irwin Chusid is to outsider music as Irving Azoff was to Atlantic Records. This is to say that Chusid is the outsider music mogul. He's the guy behind the guy behind the artist… that you've probably never heard of.
However, you're familiar with Chusid and some of the artist's work he champions.
You may not know who Raymond Scott is, but if you're above a certain age, you may recall the animated series The Ren & Stimpy Show. Well, it's Chusid's dogged championing of Scott's music and push for its re-release that found its way into the earholes of The Ren & Stimpy Show Creator John Kricfalusi and Creative Director Bob Camp.

Episode 213 - Gary Myrick of Havana 3 am
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Wednesday Jul 20, 2022
Singer/Songwriter, Troubadour, and Texas Guitar Slinger Gary Myrick drops by Thunderlove Studio to chat with Keith and Rob about the self-titled debut album by Havana 3am from 1991.
Havana 3am took shape when singer Nigel Dixon (of rockabilly band Whirlwind), guitarist Gary Myrick and bassist Paul Simonon (of The Clash) went out riding their motorcycles.
This self-produced album is wickedly sharp and melds surf, punk, rockabilly, traditional rock and adds a healthy Latin influence. For 1990, it was probably a little ahead of its time.
Gary talks to the guys about his entire career, which includes meeting Jimi Hendrix, getting shot at while performing in Texas, and replacing Stevie Ray Vaughn. Myrick even plays a little sample of what he is currently working on… and it’s amazing, naturally.

Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Singer/songwriter Kim Fox popped around Thunderlove Studios to talk with Keith and Rob about her 1997 debut album Moon Hut. And what a great conversation they had! Kim takes the guys on her musical journey from college through today. Including her pivot from music to photography.
They cover a lot of ground and her stories help paint a more textured picture of Kim Fox as an artist.
AND, she's just wonderful to chat with...as you will hear.

Episode 211 - The Ballad of Ian and Oona
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Communication breakdown at HQ as Keith and Rob are sans guest this week.
For reasons that remain murky, at best, Keith and Rob had to pull a rabbit out of their proverbial hat this week as the guest they had booked vanished. Authorities have been notified.
Thinking on his feet EP Rufus Thunderlove proved his worth by deciding to pull in the Words and Music series from Amazon amp. The series where they read 100 word stories and pair it with a song - like wine and cheese.
So, in lieu of a guest this week, you will get 6x100 word stories written and read by Keith and six fine songs (luckily not written or sung by Keith). It's called The Ballad of Ian and Oona.
Think of this episode of Abandoned Albums as the equivalent of a fine Champagne and Brie pairing.
We're back next week with a shiny new (and normal) episode.
